Tough Sayings

Our small group is doing a study by Michael Kelley called The Tough Sayings of Jesus.  It's a good book that really makes you think, and I love that.  There's a different biblical story each time which focuses on challenging words of Jesus (hence the title, HA).  It's so easy as a Believer to stay zoned in on the happy, encouraging scripture that is so refreshing.  This book has reminded me of the importance to also remember the tough stuff, and that it's not always "honky dory."

Tonight's "tough saying" is about the parable of the shrewd manager in Luke 16.  It focuses on a Godly perspective on money, needs, and giving.  Everything we have comes from above, and it can be so easy to slip into the worldly ideas of keeping up with the Jones's.

"No one can serve two masters.  For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money."  Luke 16:13

I do believe that God wants us to live happy lives and have the nice things He blesses us with, but we should not ever allow it to take precedence over our spiritual life.

"Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."  Matthew 6:21

My prayer is that Caleb and I honor God with our finances first and foremost.  I love that we have such a wonderful small group to share these "growing up" things with!  : )
